According to studies, chewing gum for 30 minutes after meals may help to reduce heartburn. Chewing gum tends to stimulate saliva production and swallowing which is supposed to help dilute and clear stomach acid from your esophagus which helps reduce heartburn.

AVOID CIGARETTE SMOKE

Some may not be aware, but smoking can contribute to heartburn. Stay away from smoking or second hand smoke inhalation as this can cause an attack of heartburn.

OVER THE COUNTER MEDICATION

There are plenty of over-the-counter medications that aid in reducing heartburn. From antacids, H2 blockers to proton pump inhibitors, they can be used to reduce stomach acid and eliminate heartburn symptoms.

So when heartburn hits, these are some of the remedies you can try to help reduce your symptoms. You can also consider adjusting your daily habits but avoiding your triggers, whether it be fatty or spicy foods, avoiding lying down after eating and maintaining a healthy weight level.
